Aldermen vote to roll back millage rate

Ruston property owners won’t see an increase in their city property tax rate this year. That’s because the Board of Aldermen on Monday voted to roll back the millage rate so that it generates the same amount of revenue in 2016 as it did in 2015.

The unanimous vote to lower the millage came as part of the state-mandated adjustment of property taxes either up or down depending on assessed property values.

“This administration and this Board of Aldermen do not support a roll forward of property taxes in the city of Ruston,” Mayor Ronny Walker said.
